Reason for adventuring: | Tubble was originally a member of His Majesty's Exploratory Force, along with the rest of his all-dwarven adventuring group - The Followers of the Dawn:
The group's symbol is a dwarven hammer in front of a rising sun. Knour made each of them a belt buckle from the design (Group Item). The Followers of the Dawn explored the lands of Barsaive for a number of years, then one fateful day, Earlic, Narus and Caila were killed while they were fighting a large pack of Gnashers. During the fight, Tubble had run to help his wife, but had tripped. He still secretly blames himself for her death. About two months later, near the southern end of the Servos Jungle, the three survivors spied some spires of smoke rising from the trees. They found the burned ruins of the windlings' village and evidence of a battle, but strangely, there were no dead bodies. The dwarves searched around for survivors, eventually found a tiny windling child hiding deep in a crack between some rocks. After quite a bit of coaxing, they managed to persuade her to come out. The child was so terrified that she wouldn't talk to them at first, not even to tell them her name. In jest Knour called her Gem (they had to pry her from the rocks). Incidentally, it was also Knour who gave Tharlen the nickname, Tubble. He had meant to say, as Tharlen had approached the group one evening, "uh oh, here comes trouble!" but he had had a few ales and so it came out "tubble". Gem turned out to be the only survivor of her clan. Knour suggested that Tubble look after the orphaned windling. He could see the Wizard was missing his wife dearly but had also seen how the child had sometimes drawn him out of his depression and made him smile despite himself. To the other's surprise, Tubble didn't object. When they returned to Bartertown, the Wizard bought a house and retired from adventuring. He has spent the last 38 or so years studying magic and following scholarly pursuits. At times, Tubble assists the Eye of Throal. | |
