    General
    Appearance:
Jaenn (JAY-enn) is slightly over 190 centimetres tall, with long (shoulder length) straight black hair, which he wears pulled back severely and tied with a leather cord. His build is fairly solid, which makes him well proportioned for an elf and on the thin side of normal for a human. To female Namegivers of most races, he appears highly attractive and generally charming, in a roguish sort of way (a state of affairs he tends to actively encourage). Generally, he wears a loose white long-sleeve shirt, dark leather studded pants and heavy leather knee-length boots. His broadsword is carried slung over his back, with the hilt just over his right shoulder.

His eyes are a very piercing emerald green, highlighted by his high cheekbones and chiselled face. Days spent in the sun travelling and practising his art have given him a well-tanned skin and many hours spent training has left Jaenn fast on his feet and highly nimble. As an elf, he does not grow a beard and he always appears clean shaven.

    Personality Traits

"A charming rogue" best describes Jaenn. He was raised on the tales of legend and lore passed down through generations and on the words and deeds of present-day adventurers. He tries to fit the honourable adventurer mould. Humour is a very important part of Jaenn's life - there are very few situations which Jaenn finds sufficiently serious to stifle his endless sense of humour.

Jaenn likes to feel life to its fullest, and constantly strives to feel everything in life. He doesn't mind hardship, simply because it makes him appreciate comfort even more and, anyway, it often makes the basis of an amusing tale. He dislikes killing entirely, but has a slight temper and can often let his passion get the better of him in the heat of battle. Women are Jaenn's primary weakness, with alcohol coming a distant second. He is still young, barely twenty four summers, and he still has many childish qualities. His sense of humour gives him an instant liking for the cheerful outlook on life that he and windlings share.

    Background History

Origin: I was born and raised in the village of Rydicas which is situated about one to two days walk east of the ancient ruins of the city of Parlainth. My parents are Telestian and Aliana and I have two older brothers (Gerald and Ethain) and two younger sisters (Cianne and Elana). We adore our parents and they are immensely proud of us. We are very closely knit family - perhaps we may not continually stay in contact, but we will protect and defend each other to death.

Growing up in Rydicas consisted of a continual bombardment of tales about ancient magic and fantastic adventures - both pre-Scourge and in the present. I spent much of my young life following everyone in Rydicas around and asking them a ceaseless torrent of questions. I got along well with just about everyone.

My insatiable curiosity was eventually matched by my passionate following of the adventures of the heroes of Barsaive. From the earliest age, I would rush home to my parents and siblings to tell them the latest tales and old stories - all with a light of vast excitement shining in my eyes. At first my family listened to the tales good naturedly, then with fascination as I developed the knack of being able to weave a tale like no other had heard.

As a number of adventurers questing after treasure, glory and honour in Parlainth would travel through Rydicas, I saw exponents of almost every Discipline and I talked to every Adept I could. There was never a doubt in my mind what I wanted to be, even from the time I first learned to talk. I was possessed with an unquenchable desire to be a Troubadour.

A t'skrang named Cha'Len, a well-known and well-liked Troubadour who was well advanced in his Discipline, eventually noticed me and made an offer to train me in his Discipline. For months, I followed Cha'Len, memorising fantastic tales, learning the art of song and the skill of wielding both sword and flute.

Finally, I was allowed to give my first performance, ‘warming up the crowd' before Cha'Len went on stage. I chose a traditional tale, but wove it with humour and sadness - having the audience alternately laughing until it hurt and then crying tears of pity and sadness. I held the audience in the grasp of my hand for a full twenty minutes. Cha'Len found himself very hard pressed to top my performance that night.

During my second summer as an apprentice, I was granted the right to perform on stage by myself as the main event. My skill with instruments was nothing to pass comment about, but it was my voice that truly shone through. I drew the audience into singing with all their might in the chorus of a ballad. I had them hanging onto every word of a tale, spellbound by the depth and colour of my storytelling.

I developed a small following, especially among young human and elven women. Many girls were attracted to my roguish, cavalier attitude; my abilities as a Troubadour-to-be; and my charm and looks. Many fathers of young girls purchased large stabbing and striking implements specifically to discourage me from making any advances. I, in turn, developed much skill in stealth - to avoid the muttering armed father at the front door and to slip the daughter out the back, unnoticed...

Time passed quickly for me. I performed as often as I could, marvelling that I could be paid for something I loved doing. My charisma and charm continued to develop as I matured and my skill as a Troubadour became undeniable. One night, Cha'Len formally introduced me to a crowd at his largest performance as a Troubadour, not an apprentice or a learning entertainer, but as a fully-qualified Troubadour Adept. That night I gave the performance of my life so far.

The time came for my coming of age ceremony. My ritual was focused clearly - I already knew that deep in my heart I loved being a Troubadour and that this would always be my Path.
